Shree Kalika Secondary School
Help bring clean water to Shree Kalika Secondary School in Nepal!

World Water Day takes place every year on March 22nd and is focused on raising awareness about the Global Water Crisis and how we can create a brighter future. Access to clean, safe drinking water is one of the greatest challenges humanity faces; nearly 2 billion people around the world depend on contaminated water for daily use.
Gravity Water is addressing this challenge by providing schools in Nepal, Vietnam, and Indonesia with safe drinking water systems that turn rain into safe drinking water for the students and community members, 100% energy-free.
Our 2022 World Water Day School: Shree Kalika Secondary School, Kavrepalanchowk, Nepal
Shree Kalika Secondary School is located in Kotyang village in Panchkhal Municipality in the Kavrepalanchowk District of Nepal, which is part of the Bagmati Province of Central Nepal. This is a very rural region of Nepal, which is only accessible by dirt roads that climb into the mountain ranges that sit at the base of the Himalayas. This region has been one of the last to be developed in Panchkhal Municipality and still lacks access to centralized water systems throughout the area.
The communities located in Kavrepalanchowk, Nepal, primarily focus on agriculture and other small business. Many villages, like Kotyang, have gained access to electricity in recent years, which has aided in development. However, many households lack clean drinking water.
Most of the children of Kotyang attend the same school (from Kindergarten through High School) and grow up with each other throughout the community. Due to the lack of drinking water in the school, students are compelled to bring water from their homes or drink contaminated water at the school.
Shree Kalika Secondary School, as well as most areas within Kavrepalanchowk, depend on intermittent spring water or contaminated water from a local river for their primary water source. The river and spring water are never filtered and come from areas that have agriculture and wild animals. For this reason, parasites and bacteria are commonly found in the water, posing a risk to the students. Currently, the school is using the contaminated river and spring water for drinking and doesn’t have a safe drinking water source on-site.
Gravity Water has a fundraising target of $2,633.79 by World Water Day (March 22nd) to provide the students and staff of Shree Kalika Secondary School with access to a permanent, on-site source of safe drinking water they can depend on every day throughout the future. This clean water system will provide over 6,000 liters of rain- or spring-water storage, on-site, providing >1,000 liters of filtered, on-demand safe drinking water to the school every day.
Every $8 donated provides a child with access to a permanent source of safe drinking water.
