Honoring the Life of Richard Branan
On January 19th, Scott and Tricia Branan lost their son Richard, the brother of Brett, and a friend to many to depression. He was just 26 years old. We are all forever changed by this tragic event, but our hope is that through education and awareness, those suffering with a mental illness will be prompted to seek help, and maybe, just maybe, we can use this sad event to save some other young life.
A life is lost to suicide via depression every 12.8 minutes in the United States. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among fifteen to twenty-four year olds and the second leading cause of death among college students. However, most Americans remain unaware that suicide is a national health problem. The impact suicide has on the lives of family members, friends, co-workers and the community is devastating. The loss of human potential is enormous. The emotional scars to those left behind are forever.
Scott and Tricia have participated in many Hoffen Foundation events as supporters, volunteers, and donors. Scott spent many years as a Director for the Hoffen Foundation. We have been asked to set up a place where, instead of flowers, donations could be provided to try to help others in need and try to prevent other families from going through this sadness. If you wish to donate, you can click the donate button below. We will be working with the family to support young people in need and support those with desperate situations, in hopes of saving young lives. The Branan's will be working with the Hoffen Foundation to use any funds raised here to help others avoid such heartache as their family is going through as well as to help prevent the loss of another young life with promise.
Prior to this tragedy Scott and Tricia, along with others in the music community, have been working on a special musical event. They want to help people recognize the signs of depression, and to help those people that are suffering from depression. Recently we've been touched by loss not only in our Hoffen Family, but also the Branan's immediate family, and the local music family. Proceeds from this cause will help us reach so many who are struggling. Look for more on this event sometime in the future.
We extend our love and support to the Branan family. May we all learn from this sad tragedy and find a ray of hope for others with depression and support friends and family with love and caring.
