Celebrate Black History Month with Us!
February is Black History Month, and this year’s theme is “Health and Wellness.” Around the country, people are making commitments to empower and celebrate the achievements of African Americans. I (Mairaj) will run a half marathon (13.1 miles) every day during February, about 370 miles, to raise funds for nonprofits promoting health, education, rights, and community development in African and African American communities. Let's join hands to raise $100,000 towards these projects. Below is one of the projects we intend to support. If you'd like to join me in Running for Change, you can also register here.

Background
About 70 percent of the Sierra Leone population still lives below the poverty line. In addition, many children are working instead of attending school and the schools that are open are dilapidated and lack supplies. These reasons, among others, contribute to illiteracy rates and low student attendance rates in the country. Though education in Sierra Leone has improved since the end of the civil war, there are problems to be resolved and we want to be a part of the solution!
Our Work
In 2014, we set out to help rural communities in the ways they needed us most. We've built 2 health campuses in some of the most impoverished parts of the country and just stood up our first six-classroom school last year.
School Details
It will cost $40,000 for us to build a school facility from the ground up. The school would be modeled after a recent school facility we just put up in 2021. Complete with six classrooms, bathrooms, a playground and solar panels to power the school with lights and electricity.
