Do you want to help us save sea turtles?
These sea giants face lots of problems even before being born. Their eggs are really valuable in the illegal market, so lots of poachers will look for the nest to take out the eggs or they’ll even kill the females to take the eggs from their bellies. But life doesn’t get easier after being born, once the eggs hatch baby turtles need to run to the sea, facing multiple dangers, most of them won’t make it to the sea and even the ones that arrive will be in great danger until they are big enough to have no predators. But even adult sea turtles face some dangers, they get stuck in fishing nets or other human garbage, they are hunt for their meat and they sometimes arrive disorientated to the beach due to light pollution.
All of this problems have made the populations of sea turtles decline dramatically in the last few years, as a result six of the seven species of sea turtles are in the threatened or endangered list.
But not all is bad news, there lots of things that we can do to help this beautiful animals, with our sea turtle program we are working on three programs:
- Garbage pick up: We want to keep the beaches where the sea turtles nest as clean as possible, that way we make sure that they’ll find a clean place to lay their eggs and we also help to keep our oceans cleaner.
- Turtle nursery: To prevent the eggs being stolen by poachers we are collaborating with a turtle nursery, a place where the eggs will be kept save until they are ready to be released and that will allow us to make sure that all the babies arrive to the sea.
- Clinic: Our wildlife clinic has the equipment and trained staff to take care of all species of wildlife including sea turtle, all the animals that are find injured or desorientated will come to our clinic to receive the appropriate treatment before being released again into the ocean.
