Summer of Healing Campaign

Support Pathways to Recovery & bring healing and freedom to our community

ZiRu Dance, in collaboration with One Life Counseling Center in San Francisco, is conducting research, has created and is leading a series of movement classes, and choreographing a new body of dance work exploring PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and pathways to recovery from the disorder. ZiRu Dance Artistic Director and Choreographer, Philein Wang, leads the project alongside Suzanne Hughes, Executive Director of One Life Counseling Center and Marriage and Family Therapist. Nearly 30% of persons suffering from a mental illness during the COVID-19 pandemic have PTSD. An estimated one in 11 people will be diagnosed with PTSD in their lifetime. This collaboration aims to address this global struggle through a study of its current manifestations and the rich implications that can resonate more broadly in the PTSD community.


Your support of the Summer of Healing Campaign will directly support the 'Move and Release' Class Series 2, the "Pathways to Recovery" Works in Progress Showing at the close of the therapy session, and will enable us to continue our choreographic process to complete the full work. The 'Move and Release' class series is hosted by One Life Counseling Center and ZiRu Dance and is facilitated by Movement Therapist Nate Pyzik and Artistic Director Philein Wang with assistance from featured ZiRu Dance artists. The class series is provided for free for anyone who has experienced trauma and is seeking healing. The Works in Progress Showing of "Pathways to Recovery" will be open to the public and will be presented at the end of the 6 week class series. The purpose of the showing is to continue to collaborate with community members, therapists and PTSD specialists to ensure the integrity of the work and portrayal of trauma. "Pathways to Recovery" will be presented in full in the fall of 2023 in San Francisco.
