August Letter
Dear Friend,
I want to tell you about a couple of our clients. “Bob” came
to us with an alcohol issue. He had been through recovery programs before, and
been successful, but as time went on he began to slip back into some old habits
including drinking. “Bob” struggled
the first couple months he was with us, there were some occasions of drinking
even while he was here. Many would (and did) say, “you should kick him out…”. But,
when he came to us, we knew he was struggling!
Then there is “Joe”. “Joe” had been here before. He also struggled with alcohol and had
some “issues” while he was here. Same story, some folks wanted to see him
kicked out and yet we knew he was here because of his problems.
Today, “Bob” is working a full-time job and has graduated
from our G.R.A.C.E. Program into our Barnabus Program. “Bob” is putting money away and working towards getting his own
place. He has been very successful in the long run. “Joe” however, is no longer with us, of his own choosing. He
is still struggling with alcohol and will continue to face the consequences of
his actions. What’s the difference you ask? “Bob” wanted change, he wanted his life back and chose his
relationship with Christ and others over his relationship with alcohol. “Joe” just wasn’t willing to do the
“hard tasks”, like choosing healthy choices over alcohol.
Both of these men were “helped” by being at the Union
Gospel Mission! One of them took
advantage of what we are able to offer, thanks to your support, and changed his
life. The other was fed and housed and loved for a few weeks, but his priorities
have not yet been changed. Both of these men were recipients of your
partnership with the Union Gospel Mission. Your
gift helps us to continue "Meeting Needs, Making Change, and Magnifying
Christ!"
Serving Christ and the
Community,
Rev.
Executive Director
P.S. Won’t you
prayerfully consider sending a substantial gift as soon as possible!
