Jen's Sweet Dreams Missionary Salary
Help Make Sweet Dreams Come True!
My name is Jennifer Donchenko and I am the Founder of Sweet Dreams Foundation (Sweet Dreams). I started Sweet Dreams when I was 21 years old. I’d like to begin by sharing a little bit about who I am, what led me to start Sweet Dreams at such a young age and why I’m still committed today, 16 years later.
When I was 11 years old, I went through two painful events that shaped me into the woman I am today. I watched my Grandpa and a school mate of mine die of cancer within months of each other. Watching what cancer stole from them, reached to the depths of my soul. Even now, I remember all the time I spent with my grandpa in prayer and relationship. He would place my hands on his tumor and I would pray for the pain to go away. The night before he died, he gave me a kiss and told me God was taking him home. Months before that I watched my school mate, Lisa, lose her hair and her ability to walk. She became so fragile, yet her smile still shone so bright. Lisa was just an innocent child who passed before her time, yet her parents had to bury their sweet little girl. These two life changing events filled me with empathy and love and stirred my heart with the compassion that I still carry with me today.
Flash forward to 21 years old. I graduated from college, landed an incredible job as a high end interior designer, purchased my first home and started Sweet Dreams Foundation all within 1 month of each other! I took all the pain from my childhood years and turned it into motivation and passion.
God showed me unlimited grace and mercy through those broken times. He started speaking to me clearly. It was at this point of my life that I didn’t just believe in God, I wanted to wake up every day with His purpose. That purpose is to love like Jesus. My goal is to shine God’s light with every breath I take and to be in the Father’s Will every day of my life.
What is the Father’s Will for me? The Father’s Will is that I trust Him with everything I have and serve Him 100%. Years ago, God told me to give Him 100% of Sweet Dreams. And that’s exactly what I’m doing.
Sweet Dreams Foundation has a special purpose. That purpose is to lift the spirits of children battling life threatening illnesses and help medically fragile babies. Our program for children creates dream bedroom makeovers in the child’s home. This helps the child cope with their illness because they will be spending most of their time in their favorite place; their bedroom. Our baby program, RooBaby, gives Roos Wraps to the baby/parent which encourages emotional and physical development. This helps the baby and parent cope with separation and provides tools for bonding. Both programs create healing and nurturing environments.
Throughout the years, many people would tell me, “Jen you need to take a salary”, but I wasn’t emotionally available for a salary and did not want to take away from the children and babies receiving gifts. I didn’t want my salary to be based on how many Dream Bedrooms or Roos Wraps we were able to provide. I wanted it to be about the relationships that are built in the process. I love going to hospitals and visiting with families. I love the ability to go to their homes for family dinners and develop a deeper connection with our volunteers and sponsors. In my years of serving Sweet Dreams, I have seen brain tumors shrink, volunteers battling PTSD from serving in the military be set free, isolated parents feel loved in our community, and kids light up with the joy of the Holy Spirit. I have also seen babies achieve incredible emotional and physical milestones. God has given me the gifts of encouragement and healing. He has blessed Sweet Dreams with a family of volunteers/sponsors who also have incredible gifts, so that together we will shine His light brighter.
Together with my amazing Sweet Dreams team, our goal from August 2022-December 2023 is to fundraise and give 10 children Dream Bedroom Makeovers and 400 babies Roos Wraps. We want to continue building wonderful, meaningful relationships in our community! During this time, I would also like to organize and coordinate systems so that Sweet Dreams Foundation can grow to have full time staff and sustainable income.
This brings me to my personal financial goal. I would like to fundraise a minimum of $40,000 per year to support my family. My promise to you is that I will continue to be fully committed to this cause. I will also continue to visit our Sweet Dreams Family’s homes and let them know they are loved and supported. I have big GOD sized dreams for Sweet Dreams. My vision is to eventually open two places of healing and restoration for our Sweet Dreams Families, Volunteers, Sponsors and community called A Sweet Dreams Retreat and another called The Well. If it is the Father’s will, I believe it will eventually become a reality.
