6-9 Garrison Creek Cleanup and Invasives Removal
Murfreesboro, TN. Help make a difference for our waterways.
Join us on June 9 from 2-6pm to pick up litter and remove invasive species on the banks of Garrison Creek. In the past 10 years, volunteer teams have planted trees and vegetation to improve this important stream (see before and after pictures below). Litter has begun to collect along the approximately 1 mile section of stream. Also invasive species including Bradford pears, honeysuckle, and privet have moved in. We plan to remove the invasive species and as much litter as possible. This is a free event, but if you choose to register and make a donation, your gift will help us continue our important work here on Garrison Creek and near roadways, waterways and in other public spaces.
This event is part of Mississippi River Network's River Days of Action. From cleanup and habitat restoration events such as this, to justice-focused events, River Days of Action features events throughout the Mississippi River Watershed, from Louisiana to Minnesota. When you register for this event you will be signed up as a River Citizen with 1 Mississippi. River Citizens are people who want to clean up and protect our country's greatest River and the surrounding watershed. The program is free and you can opt out at anytime. Whether in armchairs or wading boots, River Citizens protect the River by speaking up on its behalf and caring for it in simple ways that make a big difference. Save the date: On October 8 we will be planting more trees and vegetation on another stretch of Garrison Creek.
