GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a global movement, encouraging people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity. TLP is proud to participate in this day of giving and unity. This year, we are raising $8,000 to help us save more dogs with heartworm disease.
Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body.
While this disease may be relatively easy and inexpensive to prevent, it can be one of the most expensive to treat. The cost of treatment can be in the thousands of dollars for some dogs, depending on the size and severity of disease. Most shelters do not have financial resources to treat dogs with heartworm, nor capacity to house them, which increases the risk of heartworm positive dogs being euthanized.
These lovable blocky headed pups may have big hearts, but we need to make sure their hearts are heartworm free. Every dollar TLP raises will help treat heartworm positive dogs, provide preventatives to TLP fosters and raise awareness about the challenges and devastations of heartworm disease, as well as the importance of monthly preventatives.
This #GivingTuesday, if each of our supporters will donate just $5-$10, we’ll FAR surpass our fundraising goal of $8,000!!!
