Building Hope Peer to Peer

Incorporated in September 2010, in the aftermath of the devastating January 2010 earthquake Haiti Hope House's mission is:

"To seek opportunities to help educate Haitian children, and train Haitian young adults in marketable skills, in partnership with existing organizations and local communities in order to equip them for a better future." 

Haiti Hope House (HHH) is in mission in the community of Mizak, La Vallee de Jacmel, in Haiti's South-East Department.

Mizak, is a rural community located about 50 miles from Port-au-Prince. It has a population of about 35,000 of which 70% are peasants struggling to survive with an income of about $1.00/day. There is no electricity, running water, or any of the amenities we take for granted. Many of the children and young adults of Mizak do not go to school because the parents cannot afford to send them.

Since HHH began in ministry in Mizak in September 2010, it has made it possible for more than 200 children to go to school. We began with 25 children in 2010. The number has steadily increased every year, and for this school year, we are supporting a total of 106 children: paying their tuition, and providing financial support for their books, uniforms, and other school supplies.

In addition, we have offered, without any cost, 9 training classes for the young adults: 3 in Electricity, 2 each in Project Management, Basic Computer Skills, and English Translations. A total of 121 young people have attended these training classes.

In 2013 we began the construction of a Learning Center where learning can take place on an ongoing basis: when schools are closed, and especially during the summer vacations when the children have nothing to do and nowhere to go. It will include a small library, two classrooms, a media center with access to the Internet. The building is completed, however much needs to be done before it can be used.

This campaign is to help HHH raise the necessary funds to make the Learning Center fully functional.
