Movement Podcast
A member of Intersection for the Arts
Movement is a new podcast that tells stories of human migration through music. Hosted by Ethiopian-American singer Meklit Hadero, the show is a collaboration with ethnomusicologist and Murrow Award-winning sound designer Ian Coss, along with veteran radio editor Julie Caine.
We use personal stories to connect listeners with the large scale forces at play in the lives of refugees, migrants, their families and communities—including conflict, climate change, xenophobia and citizenship. Yet through the viral and universal power of music, we gain access in a way that fosters empathy in divisive times—reaching listeners at the level of the hips, the heart, and the head. Just as comedy and sports have become important spaces for the discussion of current events, we believe music can open the way for a more nuanced and human-orientated conversation about immigration, and the way it shapes our world today.
