Children with disabilities in Jamaica need Our Help!

It’s amazing the things we take for granted… the ability to move independently, to breathe independently, to feed ourselves or brush our teeth independently. Now imagine a 16-year-old boy who has not yet learned how to crawl, much less sit, stand or walk. A 10-year-old girl who lies in the same position each day because she cannot move on her own. Or teenage boy who cannot feed himself. Or a young woman who cannot read, tie her own shoe laces or do any of the things someone her age can do with ease. How would it feel to be in the position? Or to be a family member to one of them?

These are just a few examples of real children with real disabilities, when they’re not given the proper care or supports to help them to develop. Supports like occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, adaptive aids, special education. In Jamaica, these specialists are not readily available, and for the few that are, families are not able to afford the services. That is why at the Nathan Ebanks Foundation, our goal is to advocate for change in policy so that these children and families are helped. We have designed programs to creatively bring these much-needed supports to these children, young adults, and their families. Because every life matters and every child deserves a chance to survive and thrive!

This is only the start on our journey to supporting a much larger community. Help us get there faster by becoming a Peer to Peer Fundraiser for our cause in your community! It’s the to get started. Here’s  a quick guide on getting started: -

  2. Create your page here (Campaign end date is December 31, 2017

  3. Pick your audience – friends, co-workers, student group, other

  4. Set your goal – start with an easy amount for example $200. You can increase it as you go.

  5. Be the first to donate. An opening tally above $20 is a great start, and leading the charge of donations by example has an escalating effect on the final dollar amount.

  6. Ask for specific amount for example at least $20 per donor

  7. Tell your story about why you choose this cause. Do you or someone you know have a disability? Making it personal will inspire others to support

  8. Announce your campaign and promote through your social media, Whatsapp and email

  9. Share, share and share, the NEF and NECAG posts from our website and Facebook pages

  10. Remember to thank your supporters

    Don’t forget to have fun!
