Freya was just a kitten when a friend of Barry rescued her from a woodpile during a snowstorm and gave her to him as a birthday gift. Barry put Freya in his jacket to warm her, and they’ve been bonded ever since.
Freya, who was born in 2012, has not only given lots of love to Barry but also shown him he cares more about love than material things. Freya once broke a treasured painted porcelain piece in Barry’s home, showing her true colors as a “flying monkey,” remembers a laughing Barry.
The queen of the house, Freya gets along well with her dog sister Sparkly, also a Phinney's godpet, but keeps Sparkly on her toes. She hides in wait before launching at Sparkly, jumping on her and putting her paws around her in stealth-like “gotcha” fashion. Barry gets so much joy from seeing them run back and forth while they play.
Barry says that Freya definitely has some “dog-like tendencies,” She can be bossy, but people always describe her as being as cool as a dog.
Phinney’s has been helping Freya with batches of cat food and litter. The COVID-19 pandemic made things harder for Barry, but thanks to Phinney’s, he says, they are still together.
