NoVA Prism Center & Library presents The Lantern, a new, pay-what-you-will community zine celebrating Northern Virginia LGBTQIA+ creators and culture. In our inaugural edition of The Lantern, local writers and artists explore the myriad experiences of being LGBTQIA+ while living just southwest of the nation's capital. In a region torn between southern history and the epicenter of current day politics, our local culture is a vibrant scene of activism through love.
This is the inaugural issue of The Lantern, a quarterly zine that focuses alternately on teen and adult experiences (Look for our first Teen Creators issue dropping in early 2023). The Lantern zine is primarily a showcase of local creators and perspectives, while also acting as a sustained fundraiser effort for NoVA Prism Center & Library as well as other LGBTQIA+ communnity organizations that may collaborate on individual issues.
NoVA Prism Center & Library seeks to create a private library and community center to serve the Northern Virginia LGBTQIA+ community through providing access to educational and community resources highlighting LGBT+ lives, bodies, and history, with an emphasis on providing vital access to teens, young adults, and multiply marginalized communities in the region. We seek to break down the disparity between the large local LGBTQIA+ population and the lack of local resources, with an emphasis on equity, community, and compassion. Your donations will allow us to do critical things like securing space, purchasing books and comfortable furniture, and outfitting the space for our projected opening in 2023.
