With continued political unrest, inflation, and lack of gasoline, life for Haitians living in Haiti right now is difficult. Additionally, there has been a recent Cholera outbreak in Haiti where half of the reported 1700 cases were children under 14 years old. An article by ReliefWeb states that, "As the waterborne disease spreads across Haiti, health centres, including those with cholera treatment centres, have limited access to fuel to operate normally, as armed gangs have blocked access to Haiti’s main port and fuel terminals."
One of the best ways to prevent cholera is through hygiene education and access to clean water. CHI Haiti's clean water program provides Gadyen Dlo water treatment systems to families, and our Gadylen Dlo distributors also provide educational materials and training to families newly introduced to the water treatment systems. CHI is raising money to provide 500 Gadyen Dlo water treatment systems and 500 bottles of treatment solution to distribute for free to people in the communities we serve.
