Help PESA to raise funds for
Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer
in Loving Memory of Diana Cukar.
Born in July of 1987, my dear sister Diana Cukar (Forever 5) was a very happy, smiley, and chatty child. She loved shopping for dresses (matching shoes were a must) and making me dance with her every time the music was on. Diana also loved Disney World (Minnie Mouse had a special place in her heart), and she loved school (she even wanted to be a teacher when she grew up). Life was as good as it could be for our family, that is until Diana was diagnosed with stage 3 neuroblastoma at just 3 years old.
For over two years Diana underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries (one of which was to remove a kidney). She had finally entered remission only to relapse 9 months later where her only treatment option was a bone marrow transplant where shortly after my sister passed. I was a child myself when everything happened, and yet I can remember like it was yesterday how happy I felt whenever Diana and my mom would come home from the hospital (it felt as though they were there all of the time). I remember how excited we would both be, and how we loved playing outside whenever she was home. Through all of this, the thing I remember most is her bravery. I never remember Diana being scared, not once through the entire process. In fact, when she knew she was dying, she told my mom that she wanted to wear her purple dress, pink shoes, and my mom's engagement ring and wedding tiara for her funeral. Diana died in our mother's arms just after mom told her, through her own tears, that it was okay to go.
No family should have to experience what our family did, and no child should have to be robbed of their childhood by undergoing aggressive, archaic chemo treatments. I think of Diana all of the time, wondering who she would have become had she been given the chance. Having her name live on, while raising funds for pediatric cancer research, means more to me than you can imagine. As you know, PESA works with children of all ages and having Diana's name be a part of something so positive all the while helping children fight cancer is a dream come true. I strongly feel that the love I have for Diana has set me on this path of making an impact on children not only through sports but now also through my partnership with Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer.
Infinite Love is a 100% volunteer-run 501c3 foundation that provides research grants to our country’s leading hospitals as well as prides itself in helping childhood cancer families both financially and emotionally. Simply put, it’s all in their name. We hope that you'll consider making a donation towards Infinite Love in honor of my sister Diana. The best part is that 100% of your donation will go toward fulfilling a research grant in Diana's name. Thank you for your love and support! - Coach Dan Cukar (Director of PESA)
