Paige O'Brien - Open Heart Medical Mission
Join My Efforts to Save Lives in Nigeria!
Dear Friends and Family,
Many of you who know me know that it has always been a dream of mine to get involved in global health. I strongly believe that we as individuals and as a nation are strongly tied to the health of everyone on this planet. I feel lucky to have an education and a set of skills that lend me useful to help promote that vision. I'm so excited to have been invited by the VOOM Foundation to go to Nigeria with a few coworkers and recover patients after cardiac surgery who may have not had the opportunity to get surgery without VOOM.
Our team will utilize our expertise to train and educate the local cardiac staff at the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital. We will also focus our care on indigent patients and those who cannot afford the high cost of open-heart surgery.
In 2013, there was not one single facility in Nigeria where you can get open-heart surgery. VOOM changed all that by partnering with local hospitals, providing infrastructure, equipment and supplies to restart the program. VOOM Foundation medical teams travel into the country several times a year with two goals...to teach and to serve those less fortunate. I am really looking forward to serving in this capacity.
I'd be honored if you'd donate to help my flight and VISA costs - any extra funds will go directly to continue to help Nigerians get the care that they need.
