Solidarity not Charity Fundraiser
Here at Black Lives Matter Phoenix Metro, we are trying a new strategy for fundraising. Existing as a nonprofit organization with anti-capitalist values, we engage in constant contradiction. We wish we did not have to engage in fundraising at all, but as a team of 9 Black staff, we also need funding to keep our staff on payroll and our free programs continuing. In looking for a principled way to engage in this contradiction, we are starting a new program that will hopefully help us to meet our financial deficits, through supporting a practice of mutual aid. The key principle of mutual aid is that it is a reciprocal relationship; both parties are receiving benefits. While we believe that knowing your donations help to keep all of our programming free and accessible to community, as well as leading campaigns that help make Arizona a better place is a mutual relationship, we wanted this relationship to be more direct.
We present to you our new Solidarity not Charity program for monthly donations:
Solidarity Supporter- $25 a month
If you sign up at this level, we will give you exclusive access to our close friend's story on Instagram. Given the state surveillance and racist vigilantes, there is a lot we do not share on our large platform on Instagram. By getting access to the close friend's story we will share the inside scoop, the tea, and behind-the-scenes cuts of our meetings, work, and events that we do not share with the larger public.
Stay Woke-$50 a month
Access to our close friend's Instagram list and private slack channel. The slack channel will be a platform where you can directly communicate with BLM Phx organizers. BLM organizers will be sharing analysis, movie critiques, and other discourse in abolition and Black liberation.
Allies to Accomplices Program- $100 a month
Access to everything in our Stay Woke and Solidarity tier as well as workshops! We have received multiple requests from white people about how to be a good allies and how they can educate themselves about these topics. This is emotionally intensive labor for Black organizers, however, we know yall need this. At this tier of donation, we can support yall in developing your analysis, from diversity, equity, and inclusion* toward liberation and beyond.
Disrupting White Privilege -$250 a month
Access to everything in the Allies to Accomplice tier AND access to have input on our *DEI workshops before they are created!
Reparations- $1000 a month
At this level, you have access to everything above and nothing more. Because reparations are owed and if you have access to this level of capital you can rest easy at night knowing that you are doing the right thing with your wealth by helping to fund a Black queer femme-led organization.
*A note on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion(DEI)-We recognize that DEI is not enough, so while we are covering these basics in the workshops, we will also be discussing how to move beyond DEI and the way it has corporatized equity.
