Succeed2gether's Montclair Literary Festival is excited to welcome New York Times' best-selling cookbook author and food blogger Deb Perelman to talk about her long-awaited and latest cookbook Smitten Kitchen Keepers: New Classics for Your Forever Files on Saturday May 6 at 10 a.m. Deb will be in conversation with Coccia Institute Director Mark Rotella.

The author of two (now three!) best-selling cookbooks and one of the most successful food bloggers with a homegrown brand of more than a million Instagram followers, Deb is a self-taught cook who rigorously tests her recipes and shares them with warmth and wit.

Tickets to hear Deb Perelman cost $40 for one person/$65 for two, and include one signed copy of the book Smitten Kitchen Keepers (value $35). Books will be available for pick up at the event. Deb will be signing books at the event.

This event will be held in the University Hall Conference Center at Montclair State University, 1 Normal Ave, Montclair 07043.

Free parking will be provided for festival attendees in the Red Hawk parking deck for this and other events held at Montclair State University (MSU) on Saturday May 6. In addition, a free shuttle bus will run from the First Congregational Church (FCC, 40 South Fullerton Ave) to MSU leaving at 9:40am and returning at 11:20am and 12:30pm.

We are currently not requiring any Covid safety precautions but we will review closer to the time. Precautions may include mask wearing and social distancing inside the venue. If you require any special accommodations to attend, please email [email protected] before the event.

Mark Rotella is the director of the Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience at Montclair State University, where he is also a professor of creative writing. He is a former editor at Publishers Weekly, where he covered cookbooks and books on food and drink. He has written two books, both published by Farrer, Straus and Giroux: Stolen Figs: And Other Adventures in Calabria and Amore: The Story of Italian American Song.

Any proceeds from the festival benefit parent organization, Montclair-based non-profit Succeed2gether, which offers free after-school one-on-one tutoring and enrichment classes with the aim of closing the education and opportunity gaps in Essex County, NJ. Dear Deb Perelman fans!

We look forward to seeing you today for Deb’s book talk. The event will start at 10:00 am.

VENUE

This talk will take place on the 7th floor, University Hall Conference Center, Montclair State University, 1 Normal Ave, Montclair 07043.

TRANSPORT & PARKING

A free shuttle bus will run from the First Congregational Church (FCC, 40 South Fullerton Ave) to Montclair State University (MSU) leaving at 9:40 am and returning at 11:20 am and again at 12:30 pm. There is also free parking in the Red Hawk parking deck. Park on the 5th floor for direct access to ground level and the University Hall Conference Center. (See campus map attached below.) There will be an MSU student at the parking deck exit to direct you as well.

DOORS

Doors will open at 9:30 am. The lift exits straight into the check-in area.

CHECK-IN

At check-in, please give your name and we will check you in via our ticketing app. If you purchased a ticket for someone else and didn't register their name, please either check in with them or have them know the name of the ticket purchaser so we can search our ticketing platform.

BOOKS

After check-in, books will be handed out to those who haven't already collected them from Watchung Booksellers. Please note, only the ticket purchaser can collect their book for the one book for two tickets option. Please be patient while we check your name on this list. Additional books will be available to purchase at the event.

INSIDE THE VENUE

Front rows are reserved for Festival sponsors and other guests. Please follow the usher’s instructions when finding a seat.

BOOK SIGNING

After the event, Deb will sign books. Please follow the instructions announced at the end of talk.
