Puget Soundworks Auditions - Fall 2023
Puget Soundworks is an all-gender, LGBTQIA+ centered community chorus serving the Puget Sound region. We strive to make the world a kinder, more inclusive place, one song at a time. Puget Soundworks welcomes LGBTQIA+ people and their allies and embraces diversity of all kinds. We look forward to hearing you in our auditions!
Audition information:
Use this form to schedule your audition time. Virtual auditions will be held Wednesday, May 3rd between 6-8pm. In-person auditions will be held Saturday, May 6th 2-5pm, in Capitol Hill in Seattle. After you register, you will receive a confirmation email with more audition information, including location logistics for in-person auditions. All auditionees will be notified of status on or before Sunday May 7th.
Please prepare 16 bars of a song for the audition. Choose something you can sing comfortably in your range. Happy Birthday or another song you can sing from memory is fine. You are welcome to use sheet music. You will need to provide your own accompaniment, or be prepared to sing a cappella. After performing your song, the Artistic Director will run you through some simple exercises to test your musicianship (e.g., pitch matching) and vocal range. Sight reading skill is not required to sing with Puget Soundworks, and there will be no sight reading during the audition.
Singer information:
In-person rehearsals will begin Wednesday, May 17th. Regular weekly rehearsals are on Wednesdays 6:30-9pm in Capitol Hill in Seattle. We do also have 2-3 Saturday rehearsals per concert cycle. Our expectation is that singers will prioritize in-person attendance at rehearsal whenever possible. We also offer Zoom rehearsals as an accommodation (e.g., to participate remotely when a singer is sick or traveling or unable to arrange childcare). Our live main stage concert will run October 27-29th. A full rehearsal and performance schedule will be provided after auditions.
COVID safety protocols will be in place for all in-person chorus gatherings, including all rehearsals and performances. All participants must be fully vaccinated with at least one booster and must follow health screening and check-in procedures on arrival to any shared space. For auditions and rehearsals, participants must either show a same-day negative COVID test result, or wear a high-quality mask at all times while indoors with the chorus. In the audition registration form, you will be asked to upload a copy of your vaccination record showing your COVID vaccination, and to sign a COVID waiver.
In Puget Soundworks, kindness is one of our core values. We have developed a Code of Kindness that explains our mission, values, and truths, and governs how we engage together in community. You will be asked to sign the Code of Kindness when you sign up to audition.
We ask singers to pay dues to support the chorus, but no one is ever turned away for inability to pay. Your dues are used to partially defray the costs of sheet music, rehearsal and performance space, and local musicians. You can read more about the dues program and other information about singing with Puget Soundworks on our website.
