Education, received his teaching and administrative credentials, and dedicated
his life to teaching and mentoring others.
Lupe began his work experience outside of education. Upon graduating from Porterville College, he moved to one of his favorite cities, Walnut Creek, California. With his bright smile, energetic personality, and positive attitude, he always made fast friends. During his time in Walnut Creek, he formed lasting friendships that he forever cherished.
A dedicated son and brother, he moved back to be closer to his family. Lupe had a life-long passion for learning. As a young child, he would spend his summers in the Terra Bella Library reading every book he could get his hands on. Throughout life, he was always an excellent student. He loved to learn and eventually, found his calling as an educator. “Mr. Román” or “Roman” as he is called by his co-workers, students, and former students, started his educational career in Terra Bella over 30 years ago as a 6th-grade teacher. He loved teaching history and Egyptian mythology, one of his favorite subjects.
Lupe chose to stay and live
in Terra Bella because of the love he had for his family, his students, and his
community. He became the principal of Carl Smith Middle School and, later, the
Superintendent for Terra Bella Union
School District. Lupe
was honored to be the Superintendent at the school he attended from K-8 grade,
he dedicated his tenure as Superintendent to prioritizing the needs of the
teachers and students.
A faithful servant to God and his faith, Lupe volunteered as a teacher catechist at St. Anne’s Parish for many years and served on the Saint Anne’s School Board. He was a loving and selfless man who always made time for anyone who needed him. Lupe gave his time freely and thoroughly enjoyed his life as a teacher and mentor to others.
