Removing legal barriers is a necessary step toward combating poverty, but the legal system is severely under-resourced, siloed, and inherently complex. As a result, low-income individuals and families receive adequate legal help just 8% of the time. Pre-eviction concerns may quickly develop into eviction proceedings, displacement, and risk of homelessness. Through its Housing Navigator Training, Legal Link, in partnership with the Justice & Diversity Center’s Tenant Advocacy Project, supports community partners to act as navigators for families at risk of experiencing housing insecurity. Learn how to identify key housing legal issues in community-based settings, surface risks for eviction, refer clients to free expert housing attorneys, and keep tenants housed.
