A highway contractor by trade and lover of hunting and fishing, Kirk Morris was an unlikely and unsuspecting supporter of the Miss Texas Organization. However, he became one of the program’s biggest fans as he watched his daughter, Kendall, be crowned Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen 2006 and Miss Texas 2011. He loved what the organization did for his daughter and other young women by giving them an outlet to perform their talents, serve in their communities, and grow their confidence.
Kendall’s platform during her year as Miss Texas was “Leukemia: Living for a Cure,” in honor of Kirk after he was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. One of his favorite memories from that year was leading the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Light the Night Walk in Fort Worth hand in hand with Kendall. Through the research and funds raised from LLS, Kirk was able to beat Leukemia.
Kirk was a beloved husband to his wife, Christy, and father to his children, Payne and Kendall. This scholarship will be given in his memory at the Miss Texas Scholarship Competition.
