In Loving Memory of Soror Theresa B. Gartin Leeke
Soror Theresa B. Gartin Leeke supported the Sigma Public Education and Research Foundation for 30 years. Her life work aligned with the foundation’s vision to strengthen communities through public education and advocacy, by reducing poverty, and improving the quality of life. As an educator, assistant principal, and principal at Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., allowed her to model and teach the importance of academic excellence and continuous learning to her students and staff.
As a consummate networker, community builder,
and collaborative leader, Soror Leeke launched
afterschool programs, developed
teaching and training models secured funding and in-kind donations, created a
computer lab, increased parental support and participation, and incorporated
the arts and music as core subject
matter. Her efforts enhanced students' overall academic experience and added to
her staff's professional growth.
