Dispelling Myths, Providing Solutions
We're launching our new summer campaign “Dispelling Myths, Providing Solutions” because many still have misconceptions about affordable housing and don’t know how it benefits communities by adding beauty, providing investment, restoring vacant land and unused buildings, as well as housing our low-income and unhoused neighbors. We know that our educational work will help make more affordable housing happen in our city and beyond.
This summer, on July 15, we will host an Affordable Housing Bus Tour to highlight the opening of the Salvation Army Hope Center (65 units of supportive housing for our unhoused neighbors). We will view different types of affordable housing throughout the city, including affordable homeownership, senior housing, family housing, supportive housing for those experiencing homelessness, etc. We will hear from people with lived experience of homelessness who are now housed. Pasadena Housing Director Bill Huang will give a presentation encouraging religious institutions to follow the example of the Salvation Army’s Hope Center, and our Congregational Land Committee will present our process for how we prepare churches to partner with an affordable housing developer.
You are invited to join us and see for yourself the amazing
affordable housing projects in our city. You'll also learn about our other efforts, such as our Safe Parking program and the N. Fair Oaks Empowerment Initiative.
