Beth Schenck is a saxophonist, composer and educator based in San Francisco. She feels most at home with music that blurs the line between composition and improvisation. Beth’s music has been described by critics as “frank and beautiful” (Greg Burk), “reliably enthralling” and “transporting” (Andrew Gilbert). Beth has a brand new solo saxophone album out called "Above and Below" on Innova Recordings.

The Beth Schenck Quintet features Beth Schenck on alto saxophone, Cory Wright on tenor saxophone and bass clarinet, Matt Wrobel on guitar, Lisa Mezzacappa on bass, and Jordan Glenn on drums. This is the Quintet's debut performance! Although these Bay Area improvisers have played together in different configurations for a decade, this quintet of musicians brings together their diverse backgrounds and influences to create boundary-pushing improvisation out of new compositional work from Beth. Inspired by the individual voices of each member of this ensemble, Beth set out to write music to specifically feature each one of these exceptional musicians. The result is music that is both challenging and accessible.

The West Oakland Sessions are back at the Dresher Ensemble Studio! This series of concerts focuses on local musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area, presented by Jazz in the Neighborhood and New Performance Traditions. Buy tickets in advance for a discounted price!
