We hope you’ll include REACH Shirati in your end-of-year giving! In the past year, we’ve re-opened New Tina’s School in a more populated area near Shirati, expanding access to high-quality education for local students. With an annual budget of around $100,000, we can continue to support approximately 400 students a year.
New Tina’s School offers a rich curriculum that includes tutoring, a gender respect class for girls and boys, and an art class in cartooning. Tuition is low, and scholarships provide our most needy students with tuition and health care at Shirati Hospital.
Our Shirati Hospital food program was honored by the Tanzanian government for its innovation in developing nutritious patient meals at a low cost. Most rural hospitals in the developing world do not provide any food for their patients. We support this program for about $14,000 a year.
After researching and quantifying the gender gap in college-bound students, we’re developing a girls’ academic mentoring program to help girls in our local secondary school, many of them Tina’s alums, graduate and go on to college.
All our projects are developed with the guidance and participation of the local Shirati community, run by local leaders, and staffed by local teachers and social workers.
