Delane’s Natural Nail Care’s Steps to Success program (DNNC STS) has been sponsored by a non-profit organization called Social Good Fund since 2016. However, we are proud to share that we now have our own 501(c)(3) status (Federal ID - 84-4849285). This has been a major milestone for us, and we are so proud to share this accomplishment with you. Delane’s Natural Nail Care would like to enlist your support as a sponsor for our 5th annual gala. The gala will take place on November 11, 2023. Please take a moment to read and learn more about the origins and operations of DNNC STS:

Delane’s Natural Nail Care (DNNC), for over 25 years, Delane Sims, has always operated her business with vulnerable populations in mind. As an example, she provides a mobile pedicure service to elders who are unable to leave home. By working with seniors over the years, being appointed as a commissioner with Alameda County Area Agency on Aging, and taking care of her elderly relatives (including her 117-year-old father) before his passing in 2016, Delane became acquainted with a full range of services that elders needed, hence, the formation of a program called Senior Moments Connections (SMC) was created, and is now a Jefferson award winning San Leandro, California Chamber of Commerce community service. DNNC is also the training hub for new Steps to Success candidates on their journey to become manicurists. DNNC is so much more than a nail salon, it is a village that incorporates clients as mentors and propels single mothers and women to new heights.

True to her nature, Delane, the constant visionary with compassion and a former single mother of four children, is aware of the need for single mothers, especially those who receive government assistance and have suffered homelessness. By drawing on her own life experience and utilizing her nail salon business as a platform, DNNC STEPS TO SUCCESS was born! DNNC Steps to Success started organically in 2000 and was formalized with its fiscal sponsor, Social Good Fund, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2016. Delane was honored to receive the Mayor’s Award of Excellence in 2018 for her service to the San Leandro community and has been awarded twice by the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, most recently in 2023, for their “The Future is Community” award.

DNNC Steps to Success is designed to provide vocational training and mentorship to women and single parents. Along with the technical and professional skills acquired, the participants learn social skills to become more successful as parents. Classes are provided for our participants in such areas as: financial literacy, etiquette, nutrition, parenting, and more. We believe that when we help change the lives of women and mothers, the odds for success increase dramatically for their children, and our communities are richer because of this.

Steps to Success has proven to be a comprehensive and coordinated training and mentorship program with outreach to mothers and women.

According to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Women’s Law Center, more than 10 million low-income working families with children, 39% or about 4.1 million, were headed by single working mothers, who are five times more likely to be poor than married couples. Low wages, the high cost of housing and childcare, coupled with a lack of education are just some of the factors that cause huge disparities among single parents. DNNC Steps to Success provides a solution to these challenges. While being a single parent is not a pathology, many have been successful, however, DNNC STS is here to support capable parents who will not follow a path that can lead to homelessness, poverty, poor health, and crime.

Our fundraising goal for this gala event is to raise a minimum of $75,000. These funds will help cover the following costs:

Build capacity by hiring an administrative staff assistant.
Scholarships for manicure/cosmetology school.
Refine our admissions process to attract new participants.
Emergency stipends for program participants i.e. car repairs, utilities, emergency medical, etc.
Provide advanced medical pedicure training.
Support general operating cost.
