Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer,
a childhood cancer foundation near and dear to his heart.
Meet the Dugary family. Mom Justine, dad Joe, their fierce fighter Joey, and baby Jack.
Joey is the happiest 3 year old, and such a bright light in the lives of so many. Joey loves his family, special outings, trips and adventures, all things sports and construction, and making his brother laugh with his silly antics.
Joey’s mom, Justine, is a teacher - though currently taking time away from the classroom to raise and care for Joey and little brother, Jack. The family is grateful that Justine was able to spend so much time with Joey during his first year of life as she was able to pick up on small signs that something wasn’t quite right before Joey exhibited any severe symptoms. Dad, Joe, is a financial advisor. They live in Haddonfield, NJ.
Weeks before his first birthday, Joey’s family received devastating news. An MRI revealed a brain tumor. Joey had brain surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to remove the tumor, and one week later it was confirmed that he had cancer and would be needing further treatment.
For the next 6 months, Joey underwent an intense chemotherapy protocol and stem cell transplant at CHOP. Joey and his family stayed at the hospital for treatment for 2-3 weeks (+ emergency visits) each month. Joey currently has NO evidence of cancer in his brain or spine, however, he will continue to have MRIs for many years to ensure that the cancer doesn’t come back. There are several long term side effects of chemotherapy at such a young age, but Joey’s family is committed to doing everything that they can to fight and beat this disease and continue to support Joey through whatever challenges lie ahead.
The past 2 years were challenging and unpredictable. Through the challenges, the Dugary family was met with the greatest love, support, and generosity from their family, friends, and community. They were connected with a local non-profit, Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer, who facilitated fundraising efforts and supported the family throughout treatment and beyond. The Dugary Family is committed to giving back to Infinite Love to help other families battling this awful disease and fund critical pediatric cancer research.
Through Infinite Love's campaigns, the Dugarys have continued to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer, directing their contributions towards the Children's Brain Tumor Network (CBTN) based at CHOP.
Just last year, Infinite Love was able to fund $250,000 in research grants and Joey got to present a $100,000 check to Dr. Jay Storm, an executive board member of the CBTN, who also happens to be Joey's (world renowned) neurosurgeon. The Dugarys are excited for the opportunity to contribute even more to the critical research funded by Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer.
