This Giving Tuesday, help fund the work of the African People’s Education and Defense Fund to build the African Independence Workforce Program (AIWP) and Black Power Square, a new community business district to be built out of shipping containers. Both projects support the development of meaningful employment and entrepreneurship to benefit our entire community.

The need to build the AIWP is not abstract!. It is real, based on the impact of the past 40 years of mass incarceration that has torn apart black families, interrupted the ability to produce and reproduce life and left our communities poor.

With the slogan Our Labor! Our Future! AIWP is part of a process of receiving our brothers and sisters back into our community to reverse the damage done by the prison system that has always been used as a colonial tool against the African community.

We are 13% of the U.S. population, but more than 40% of the prison population. One in 3 black men and 1 in 18 black women go to prison in our lifetime. In the current economic crisis, our communities everywhere are battered worse than ever. Many African families worldwide have an average income of $5 per day or less.

Under collective African ownership, these projects will create opportunities for African men and women in our community to receive training, gain employment, skills, self-respect and confidence and become stakeholders in a prosperous economy for our entire community.
