VOOM Foundation is a non-profit humanitarian medical organization that travels with a 100% volunteer
medical team primarily based out of the United States to provide education and training while serving
indigent patients in Nigeria. We have been successfully performing open-heart procedures in Nigeria since
2013. VOOM Foundation’s mission is to provide impartial sustainable healthcare programs dedicated to
quality, with a particular interest in supporting the underprivileged and underserved.
Nigeria has a population of over 220M people. The WHO defines poverty in Nigeria as living on less than $300 a year. And sadly, well over 50% of the country falls into that category. That means it would take an individual 14.4 years to save enough funds, without spending any of their living on food, rent, transportation, or their family. In 2013, there was not a single facility in Nigeria where you could receive heart care or surgery. If you live in Nigeria, your chance at receiving heart surgery is .00006%.
And that is exactly why The Vincent Obioma Ohaju Memorial (VOOM) Foundation was established, to raise the standard of care and create a sustainable medical program in Nigeria. VOOM has changed all that by partnering with local hospitals and providing infrastructure, equipment, and supplies to start a local program. We bring board-certified physicians and accredited medical teams who travel into the country several times a year with two goals...to teach and to serve a population that otherwise would not receive care.
