The Ties That Bind
Since 2016, local tour operator, Wolfe Adventures & Tours has been bringing students to Kenya to provide service to those in need. Together, with Kenyan NGO, The Divinity Foundation, more than 100 students and adults have come to understand the challenges faced throughout the rural villages first hand. These challenges cannot be overcome without external support, funding and a lot of elbow grease.
Taunya Wolfe Finn, CTP, owner of Wolfe Tours explains, “Throughout the past two decades this has been the most powerful experience we provided to youth from the states. The vast majority of students who have traveled to Kenya have been from the Greater Newburyport area with Newbuyrport Youth Services and Berwick Academy in Maine. Our intention has remained the same, to develop a meaningful connection that will create a ripple in the lives of the Kenyan villagers, and of the families that are serving.”
Building on Success
Over the course of many years the Divinity Foundation has been providing free medical camps in Amboseli and run a fully fledged FGM Rescue Centre. To complete their projects in Amboseli, the foundation is now embarking on their biggest project implementation, a Maternity and Children’s Community Hospital. The rural hospital will serve an approximate catchment of 6,000 locals who are in desperate need of a permanent medical facility within their reach. This facility will forever change the lives of the community.
Seeking Local Support
On July 11, 2024, our friends from The Divinity Foundation will join us to host a fundraiser in support of the new hospital, which is scheduled to open its doors in September. Together with Wolfe Tours, we will introduce the staff and the travelers who will share their stories first hand. Our goal is to raise $50K, build awareness and define a team of service providers to travel to Kenya to support the new hospital in March 2025. Tickets on sale now for July 11th. $125 for General Public. $75 for those who have traveled to Kenya with us in the past. Please join us on board The Captain's Lady as we watch a gorgeous sunset on the Merrimac River and cruise down the Merrimac! 6PM on the dock. Ticket includes heavy apps and cash bar.
