This weekend's retreat!
Dear Cancer Chronicles
Participants,
Congratulations, you're
ready to do something healing and creative! This weekend is your time for
sharing, reflection, writing, and community. You only need to show up on
Saturday morning with an open mind – no writing experience is needed – and I
will guide you the rest of the way. You are welcome to see stories from past
Cancer Chronicles participants on our website; hover your mouse over the photo,
and it should allow you to read samplings. (And, no, that is not a homework
assignment, just an idea that might make some of you feel more at ease.)
Here are a few
guideposts as you look forward to the weekend.
CANCER CHRONICLES WRITING RETREAT:
The Witte
Museum, 3801 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209
Saturday
and Sunday, July 27 and 28, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
(Celebratory Writers'
Reception and Reading August 4th, 2:00 p.m.)
CLICK HERE FOR INFO: THE WITTE MUSEUM
*PARKING: anywhere at or near the Witte.
Walk to the museum's Welcome Desk, and a staff member will direct you to our
private meeting space. We will begin at 10:30.
*WHAT TO EXPECT: our days will be a mix of group work and writing instruction
in our private classroom, plus time for your private writing with full access
to the beautiful grounds of the Witte.
*WHAT TO BRING: We will
provide CC notebooks, pens, pencils, morning snacks, and Central Market boxed
lunches on Saturday and Sunday. Bring your own water or water cup.
You're welcome to bring
preferred writing tools (your lucky pen, trusty keyboard with screen, crayons
and paper (! ) or voice recording device if you like to brainstorm verbally;
cell phones are great for this, I find).
AFTER THIS WEEKEND: Please reserve Sunday, August 4th, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
for our Cancer Chronicles Writer's Showcase at the Witte Museum. I'll text
you an invitation that you can share with your friends and family so that
they can enjoy snacks and drinks, celebrate with you, and hear you read your
story. Our artistic director Carla Sankey will bring musicians who will
perform a special song just for you and related to your story. It is a one-of-a-kind
experience. No pressure, just you reading your story amongst friends and former
Cancer Chronicles writers!
Please text or email if you have dietary restrictions or will
not be joining us, as I'll be ordering our box lunches from Central Market on
Friday afternoon.
It's going to be a
wonderful weekend,
~ Amy Gilmour
