Building Progressive Power in 2024
In 2023, Mass Alliance...
- Hosted 3 virtual Grassroots Campaign Trainings, preparing over 60 candidates, campaign staff, and activists for this year’s municipal campaign season. These trainings equipped participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to run effective and inclusive campaigns.
- Member organizations supported at least 50 of the successful candidates for municipal office. Nicole McClain, the first black woman to be elected to Lynn’s City Council, is a Neighbor 2 Neighbor member and was endorsed as a Mass Alliance Rising Star during her first run in 2021. Our former Board President, Roberto Jimenez Rivera, was elected to Chelsea’s City Council and was both a past Rising Star and endorsed candidate. Juan Jaramillo, our current board treasurer, will be the first person of color and Latino to serve as a City Councillor in Revere.
- Launched a virtual Grassroots Advocacy Training Series this summer, consisting of eight workshops for advocates on different facets of issue-based organizing. These workshops provided participants with the tools and strategies needed to effectively advocate for their causes and create meaningful change in their communities.
- Welcomed its new Executive Director, Vanessa Aguirreche Snow!
In 2024 we look forward to...
- Resuming our Grassroots Campaign Training in person. Through the Mass Alliance’s signature training program, we will equip grassroots progressive activists to be future campaign staff and candidates for local office.
- Endorsing, electing, and re-electing more progressive candidates to the Massachusetts State Legislature, improving the conditions in which our member-organizations advocate for policies that create real positive change in the lives of all residents of the Commonwealth
- Through our Progressive Municipal Legislators Network, we will support city and town officials in passing progressive policies and co-governing with their constituents and our members.
