The Orchard Gardens Outdoor Club is dedicated to instilling a passion for nature, outdoor activities, and community within our students. We convene weekly to foster outdoor and leadership skills, strategize monthly excursions, and delve into our surroundings' historical and environmental aspects. Our weekend adventures encompass camping on Cape Cod, hiking in the White Mountains, exploring the North American Indian exhibit at the Harvard Peabody Museum, and canoeing at Camp Ponkapoag.
By actively addressing the "nature gap," which underscores the unequal access to outdoor recreation for people of color compared to their white counterparts in the United States, our Outdoor Club aims to create inclusivity. Disparities in disposable income, resources, and access to green spaces contribute to this gap. Our club dismantles these barriers by organizing trips, providing transportation, supplying gear, and offering guidance from leaders trained in youth outdoor leadership.
Through a blend of challenging and enjoyable experiences, we cultivate robust relationships and foster trust within our community. The Orchard Gardens Outdoor Club serves as a catalyst for breaking down barriers to outdoor recreation, ensuring that all our students can engage in and appreciate the wonders of the natural world.
