CR 30 River Park in Susan Moore, AL
A new public access to the Locust Fork River!
Thank you for your interest in what is going on at the Locust Fork River in Blount County. FLFR is proud, with help from you and people like you, to have been protecting and promoting this beautiful natural treasure for over 30 years. It is our supporters who make possible the great activities, achievements, and future goals of FLFR.
In 2024 we created a public access at Taylor Riverside Park, which has been a great success. Next year we would like to have another public access, 6 miles upstream from TRP, at:
CR 30 River Park (provisional name) is about .29 acres and it is located at the CR 30 (Painter Road) bridge, in Susan Moore, Alabama. The parcel has 18.4 yards of river frontage, is owned by Blount County and is under the care of Mr Chad Trammel, District #2 Commissioner.
Development of this parcel by FLFR will address three urgent needs:
- The first is to provide a safe, public access point to the river in Susan Moore for paddlers, anglers, picnickers and seekers of scenic vistas who come from across Alabama and from other states to enjoy this river, while Blount County gains the economic benefits contributed by tourism.
- The second need is to correct surface water runoff from CR 30 that is causing extensive erosion of the stream bank, destroying the habitat of the natural critters and silting the river.
- The third need is to transform a semi-abandoned place marred by graffiti and strewn with trash that has become a hangout into a beautiful family-friendly park that will be kept clean, with safety overseen by the Deputy.
Once developed, the park will include easy access for vehicles, a flat parking area, a picnic area, a stone staircase down to the river and a canoe/kayak slide for the convenience of paddlers.
The location is 6 miles upstream from Taylor Riverside Park, an easy stretch for beginner paddlers and a great river section for people who like to fish, swim and float. It will be a welcome new public access on the Alabama Scenic River Trail, safely accessible even to beginning paddlers.
The cost of this project is estimated around $72,000
FLFR appreciates donations that will provide for a topographical survey, grading and drainage engineering plans, site construction, and material, such as stone, rip-rap, and gravel, necessary to carry out the engineering plans; a kayak ramp, stone steps, picnic tables.
