Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement created in 2012 as a simple idea:
a day that encourages people to do good.
The Douglas Brothers Foundation has served the community for over 17 years. The Douglas children growing up served their community by helping other families in need. After graduating from high school to pursue their collegiate goals, they wanted to consistently give back to the community. The Douglas Brothers Foundation was created, and its impact is phenomenal.
Our mission is to educate and empower challenged youth and families in our community to achieve their life and career goals, while building stronger communities that support the betterment of younger people. Our goal is to provide services and resources such as Community Outreach, Hunger Relief Promoting Health and Wellness, Career Development Tools, Financial Literacy, College Tours, Life Skills, and Mentorship for 3,500 parents and children. Our services and impact are achieved through our annual events: Our Back-to-School Giveaway helps many children with school supplies to prepare for a successful school year. The Holiday Treat Festival Tree of Love provides toys, bikes, coats, shoes, hygiene products and boxed food to children. Our Community Feeding Hot Meals is year-round to help reduce food insufficiency in families. Youth growth and development strengthens the community. During all of our event activities, they are mentored by adult volunteers and taught the importance of volunteerism, and they learn communication skills, teamwork, collaboration, adaptability, customer service, and how to solve problems. Our parental connection motivates and encourages healthy relationships between parents and children and their teachers in school. Parent partnership with teachers is emphasized to help student successes.
