Summer Heatwave Utility Assistance: June 2024 - September 2024
"Each year, heat related ailments contribute to the deaths of over 80 Louisville residents." — Louisville Metro Government, Urban Heat Island Project
An urban heat island Effect is when the downtown metropolitan and urban area of a city is warmer than the surrounding rural areas due to human activity. Louisville's urban heat island effect is rising, and it is increasingly important to stay cool during the summer heat wave. Long exposure to high temperatures impacts vulnerable members of our community, exacerbate the effects of air pollution, and increases electricity consumption in our homes.
We are working to raise $5,000 for the The Americana Utilities Assistance Fund this summer to support folks at risk of loosing their utilities due to non payment.
