Join Wild Alabama for an enriching hike through the breathtaking landscapes of the Sipsey Wilderness on Saturday, September 7th. Our adventure begins at 11 a.m., convening at the renowned Sipsey River Picnic Area. This outing is designed for all skill levels, offering a captivating introduction to the natural beauty of the region.

As we follow the winding trails along Alabama’s only Wild & Scenic river, the Sipsey Fork and its tributary, Borden Creek, you'll encounter verdant forests, serene streams, and opportunities to spot local wildlife in their natural habitat. The trail showcases a variety of Eastern hemlocks, mixed hardwoods, and pines, leading to a charming floodplain adorned with late-blooming wildflowers. During the right season, fortunate hikers may witness scores of hummingbirds indulging in jewelweed blooms.

Our experienced guide, Kim Waites, will illuminate the ecological and historical significance of the Sipsey Wilderness, including the legislative efforts that have safeguarded this area for future generations. The Wilderness Act was signed into law on September 3, 1964 establishing the National Wilderness Preservation System. The Sipsey Wilderness was added to the NWPS in 1975 through the Eastern Wilderness Areas Act. This hike promises not just outdoor exploration, but also an educational journey.

Whether you're an experienced outdoor enthusiast or new to hiking, this easy-level trek guarantees a rejuvenating and memorable experience. Don't miss this chance to unwind, reconnect with nature, and forge enduring memories in Alabama's stunning wilderness
