The Gift of Music 2024
Join our challenge and help us keep the music alive for another 25 years.
The holidays are a time to be grateful, and we are so very grateful to you, our supporters, for allowing us to bring the joy of live orchestral music to thousands in our community over the last twenty-five years. Your gifts help us pay for our rehearsal space and the Jackson Theater, music rentals, community outreach, and our devoted and gifted music director. Thanks to your ongoing support, we are able to offer concerts with ticket prices ranging from $20 to FREE: free to students, and free to anyone who simply can’t afford to pay. We never turn anyone away.
SoCo Phil is more than just a volunteer orchestra. We are a musical community that brings together the people who love to play orchestral music and all those who love to listen to it, enriching the cultural fabric of Sonoma County. Over the years, we have expanded our audience by presenting bilingual children’s concerts in collaboration with Latino organizations and sponsoring small chamber ensembles to perform at senior centers throughout the county. We continue to seek out new connections and new groups of music-lovers of all ages and means.
Season Highlights
To celebrate our 25th anniversary, we commissioned a special piece by local composer Robert Litton. The September premiere featured trumpeter Daniel Gianola-Norris in a moving performance of this new work. Each season, we sponsor a young artist competition in collaboration with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. This year’s winner, 11-year-old Cynthia Lu, performed a Mozart piano concerto to thunderous applause. One of the joys of this competition can be found in looking out over an audience that includes so many aspiring young musicians and their families.
In October, we featured something new for us: a screening of the classic 1931 film Frankenstein. The Philharmonic teamed up with acclaimed composer Carlos Escalante to create and perform a brand-new score to accompany the film. Those in attendance will agree that it was a monstrous success!
Our next performances promise to be equally exciting, including a concert set with a Spanish flair, and culminating in a performance of Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 9.
We rely on the generosity of our donors to keep the doors
open, the lights on, the orchestra playing and our musical family
together. Our year-end goal: $20K. Your contribution in any amount
will be music in someone’s ears, and the gift of music lasts a lifetime.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT!
