At Today’s Future Sound (TFS), we believe in the power of Hip Hop to change lives. Through our Therapeutic Beat Making classes young people can express themselves, build skills, and engage in healing through music.

Our Impact in 2024

Over 2,000 youth spent more than 2,000 hours learning, creating, and healing through Hip Hop.
Together, they produced 474 tracks and released 12 albums now available for download on BandCamp and streaming on SoundCloud
Our instructors brought Therapeutic Beat Making to juvenile detention centers providing a unique and much-needed intervention for young people in crisis
#TEAMBeats traveled to Colombia and Mexico, training local musicians and educators to bring Hip Hop therapy to youth in Medellin and Bogota
Presented to key decision makers at the Breaking Barriers Conference advocating for music-based mental health interventions for California youth.

What Your Donation Will Do:

Ensure youth in juvenile detention are offered healing and educational opportunities with our trained instructor.
Expand TBM workshops to more schools and community centers across Oakland, providing young people with a creative and therapeutic outlet.
Train more youth development professionals in our proven Therapeutic Beat Making/Hip Hop Education model, spreading its impact far and wide
Bring joy and hope to young people, giving them the tools to express themselves and navigate life’s challenges

Exciting News for 2025:

In 2025, TFS is proud to help Ken Laxamana, aka Lax the Monk, renowned fingerdrummer and MPC master, launch his own Fingerdrumming Academy with a seed grant from Zoo Labs. Lax’s expertise and passion for music will help empower a new generation of youth, providing them with the skills and mentorship needed to succeed.
