Did you know whaling was our nation's first integrated industry, and that between one-quarter and one-third of crews were people of color? Join our fascinating presentation spotlighting the roles African American mariners played in our whaling history. Explore their triumphs, challenges, perseverance, and connections to sea-including ties to the Underground Railroad. 


Nomi Dayan is the Executive Director of The Whaling Museum in Cold Spring Harbor, where she has worked since 2008. Previous experience includes the Prospect Park Zoo, NY Aquarium, and the Brooklyn Children's Museum. She has a MA in Museum Education and currently serves as Vice President of the Long Island Museum Association. When not at the museum, she is involved in local community theater.
