St. John Passion Concert in Bismarck, ND
Celebration J.S. Bach's 340th Birthday
Dakota Pro Musica is presenting J. S. Bach's monumental work the St. John Passion. The concert will feature professional guest soloists, the professional choral ensemble of Dakota Pro Musica, and musicians from the Bismarck Mandan Symphony Orchestra and the Bismarck Mandan Civic Chorus.
The St. John Passion of Bach tells the Biblical story of Jesus' Passion using texts from the Gospel of St. John, as well as other poetry and hymn texts that help expand our understanding its story, emotions, and meaning. Our performance in the heart of Lent, also fall on the same weekend as Bach's 340th birthday. No major work of Bach has been performed in Bismarck since the 300th birthday year in 1985. This is a special and timely performance which celebrates one of the greatest composers of Western music and commemorates the Passion of Jesus.
Tickets are $20/ person online until March 1, 2025. On March 2, the cost will go up to $25/ person. We are also offering a special family discount for parents and their children of just $50 total for the whole family if purchased by March 1st. The performance will last about 2 1/2 hours. We will be performing the St. John Passion in a recently commissioned American English version of the piece.
