Our annual Thanksgiving project seeks to nourish bodies and spirits by gathering families around their tables for a hearty and free meal. In 2023 we collected over 13,000 pounds of food and packed over 800 boxes of holiday meal items, fresh produce, and additional pantry staples. In total we served 2473 individuals from 752 households in 77 different zip codes (13 of Proviso Township’s 14 villages were represented). We also served a hot meal at the Quinn Center on the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week.
This year, we cut more processed foods from our list so that we can provide more fresh and nutritious options that are also culturally relevant and familiar to the families we serve. Every family will receive 2 boxes: one of non-perishable staples and another with potatoes (white and sweet), celery, cabbage, green peppers, carrots, onions, garlic, and fresh cranberries (provided by our partner Real Foods Collective).
We will once again provide a grocery store gift card so that families can purchase the entree of their choice or any food items they need to finish filling their table.
It costs the Quinn Center over $23,000 to carry out this project each year. Your support is essential to filling hearts and bellies this holiday season!
We also welcome in-kind food donations, gift card donations, and volunteers. For more information about these opportunities, please visit the Thanksgiving Outreach page on our website or contact [email protected].
