The devastation is widespread in our Mountain Community and our staff is assisting with recovery efforts. Our food supply is limited and this event has exposed many gaps that our organization will be working to fill in the coming months. Please donate to help us in our efforts.
Farmer Jordan has joined an effort to educate people about maintaining personal hygiene and public health while living without running water. Known as Poop Crew, this group has organized hygiene and dry toilet kits to equip folks who have difficulty getting water to flush their toilets and are not setup to create a humanure compost system.Poop Crew have set up at resource distribution hubs at Firestorm Bookstore, PODER Emma, Burton Street Peace Garden & Market, 12 Baskets, and the Dr Wesley Grant Center. Their efforts are now shifting to distribute hygiene kits, create a public map of toilets and showers around Asheville, and join forces with Flush AVL. For more info, visit toiletsofavl.com for the map and flushavl.com for info on getting flushing water to folks who need it. From sharing hot meals to releasing Monarch butterflies (days after the hurricane they hatched from chrysalises collected by our FEAST students) we will continue to focus on building resilience by growing food and building community... keep us posted on what is needed and we will keep you posted on what we are able to do. |
