This is a two day introductory workshop designed to teach you the basics of spinning yarn via a spinning wheel. We will discuss fiber prep and drafting, as well as wheel anatomy and methods for smooth spinning. Praxis has several styles of wheel (Louet, Ashford, Jamieson, e-spinners, A Great Wheel, & more) available for class so you can see which is best for you. No experience required and all materials included.
Instructor Bio: Kat Novak is a textile artist whose emphasis is on embroidery, handspinning, screen printing, and digital textile printing. Novak utilizes textiles to celebrate and preserve communities that are often overlooked. She embraces the intersection of hand processing and technology by utilizing digitally textile printed imagery generated from shared photographed moments, embroidering, and hand sewing each piece. Her work has been displayed in Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. She has earned a B.S. and M.A. in Fashion from the University of Akron, a Master Handspinner Certificate from Haliburton School of Art and Design, and an M.F.A. in Textiles from Kent State University.
