Intro to Weaving, April

Instructor: Romy Anderson

Wednesdays: April 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th + May 7th  |  6–9pm

Interested in learning how to create your own cloth? Or do you already have a loom at home but have no idea where to start? In this 5 week course you will learn how to transform yarn into cloth via a floor loom. During the first few weeks you will learn how to calculate materials needed to set up a warp, familiarize yourself with the loom, and dress it for weaving. The second half of the class is devoted to weaving and experimenting with color & pattern. Intended for absolute beginners, no prior experience is required. Students have Open Studio access for the duration of the class (Wednesdays and Sundays 12-4pm & Mondays 4-8pm). Some time spent weaving outside of class is typical to complete your project. All materials included.

Instructor Bio: As a textile artist, my focus is specifically on weaving. I love every part of it, from dying yarn, calculating the warp amount, threading the reeds and heddles, rolling it back, and finally to the weaving. What I love most about the physical part of weaving is that two strands of yarn going in different directions in the warp and weft interact to create one united thread. There is something very soothing about weaving. The repetitive nature and the methodical planning necessary, leaves a lot of room for thinking and reflection when completing work. I am constantly thinking of new ideas and problem-solving with every strand of thread thrown back and forth.
