For 23 years, I've lived without my right hand and part of my forearm. When I was in the womb, the umbilical cord wrapped around my forearm, cutting off the blood supply. The medical term for this is Amniotic Band Syndrome. But from the moment I was born, I was surrounded by a family that never let my difference hold me back.
Growing up, I never asked, "Why me?" Instead, I asked, "How can I do this?" Whether it was tying my shoes, cutting a steak, or even typing, I had to figure out my own way of doing things. And I did.
I never considered not playing football, baseball, or basketball. I didn’t shy away from wrestling, hunting, or even talking to girls. Every challenge was just another opportunity to prove to myself that I could do anything I set my mind to. I refused to let my “disability” define me.
Today, I’m facing perhaps the hardest sport yet: golf. It’s a never-ending game of skill, patience, and strategy. But just like every other challenge, I’m determined to master it. And through the North America One Arm Golf Association (NAOAGA), I’ve found a community of like-minded individuals who share my passion. Together, we compete in tournaments, learn from each other, and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Golf is a sport that’s constantly evolving, and it’s exciting to see how it can bring people of all abilities together on the same playing field. NAOAGA isn’t just about the game; it’s about giving everyone a chance to take that ride—to experience the thrill of competition and the joy of overcoming obstacles.
As I embrace my story and refuse to let my “disability” hold me back, I’m reminded that there are countless others facing challenges far greater than mine. I don’t want to take away from their struggles. Instead, I hope to show that with the right mindset, we can all turn our challenges into triumphs.
At NAOAGA, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to experience the game of golf, regardless of their physical abilities. Join us in supporting this mission, and let’s take this journey together.
