Hurricane Maria with wind speeds over 160 mph hit the island of Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017. We are raising awareness and funds to support volunteer service trips for debris removal, road repairs, delivery of water filtration systems, and repairing structures for the long-term goal of establishing community centers providing regular wellness and sustainability education to locals.
We have partnered with LifeStraw products to bring sustainable water filtration. Learn more about our LifeStraw partnership on our website.
In Rio Grande, we have partnered with Elemental eco-retreat to help clean-up and re-build with sustainable solutions. It is our hope that we will be able to use the center to host wellness retreats and to use this space as an apothecary and residence for our apothecary training program!
We can bring hope to these hurting communities with your help!
We are launching an Apothecarist Training Program whereas our Apothecarist will live and work in Puerto Rico. The herbalist will work with the local residence offering herbal clinics and teaching sustainable practices. Your support of this program will help touch the lives of thousands of residents who are desperate for proper medical care at reasonable or no-cost to them. If you're interested in applying for this program, please visit our website for more information.
Updates from the team, one month after the benefit concert! April 04, 2018
March Progress Report
Puerto Rico Disaster Relief
Community Wellness Development With Sustainable Solutions
Hi Everyone, we raised $2,944 in March!! Our 1st Benefit Concert Fundraiser was a huge success!! Thank you again to our artists, sponsors, donors, volunteers and everyone who came out to make the benefit concert for Puerto Rico a success! Our team is growing and gaining momentum every day! We have been working on coordinating relief and planning repairs over the month of March.
We partnered with another non-profit, Open World Relief (https://openworldrelief.org/). We will supply their medical team with water filtration and medical supplies to distribute on the main island. Special thanks to Ben Watsky and David Serrano for supporting our partnership! Open World Relief volunteers are ready to distribute the filtration systems and supplies. We will be placing an order for the Personal Filters and the LifeStraw Mission by the early next week. We will be sending them directly to the team at Elemental Eco Retreat!
We are working on our water filtration distribution in Vieques. We plan to have our volunteers go and distribute water filtration in Vieques - just need to coordinate how many filters we need to bring! Having a hard time communicating with the lil' island and eager to go do community outreach on the island! Who's interested in joining us? See below.
We applied for two travel grants this month with Frontier and Southwest Airlines. We were declined by Southwest but are staying hopeful for the grant to be awarded from Frontier, considering they are based out of Denver. C'mon Frontier! We are aiming to allocate all funds donated directly to Puerto Rico; water filtration, supplies, and materials.
We are planning our roof repair project and have gotten a very inspiring idea of re-building with Hempcrete. We would LOVE to do this, however, the material cost is over our budget and the next hurricane season is right around the corner (June 1 - November 30). We are planning to build with the materials that are more readily available to us including plywood and galvanized metal. The Hempcrete idea is still possible and fully align with our sustainability goals. With the proper funding and planning, we can make it happen in the near future!
We will have a Wellness Warrior foundation outreach Meeting at Melanie's house, 2705 N Downing St, Denver CO 80205, April 12, 2018, @ 7 pm.
Please join us if you can and come ready to share your ideas on how you can be apart of this project. We will be discussing our trip to Puerto Rico. If you would like to be apart of the volunteer team and you are unable to attend the meeting please email our Community Outreach Director, Suzanna Miller, at Suzanna@wellnesswarriorfoundation.org to set up a time to talk/meet.
Our team works 100% as volunteers and 100% of your donation goes towards the cause. This campaign has raised $4,316 of a $10,000 Goal (43%). Please consider making a one-time, quarterly or monthly donation to help us reach our goal!!
Thank you for your continued support and together we ARE making a difference! God Bless!
