Project Aiwa was inspired by Tammy Johnson’s years of study of the dances and ritual practices of Northern Africa. Aiwa means “yes” in Arabic. Project Aiwa is about saying yes to the body’s wisdom and to the spirit that will not be caged by daily injustices. Project Aiwa produces performances, workshops and community-based collaborations that create space for personal and collective healing.
